Linn State Telecom Students Receive More Funds
Linn MO The Foundation for Linn State Technical College (LSTC) and the Missouri Telecommunications Industry Association (MTIA) is pleased to announce the availability of additional scholarship funds for LSTC students enrolled in the Telecommunications program.
CORE Telecom Systems, Inc. recently donated $2,000 to MTIA to provide two additional scholarships for LSTC telecommunications students. MTIA already provides two $1000.00 scholarships each year to students enrolled in the program.
According to Ben Boarman, Regional Sales Manager, CORE Telecomm is a company that believes in supporting the communities in which they do business and the best way to do that is to promote telecom related education programs.
"We certainly appreciate CORE’s contribution," said Ric Telthorst, MTIA President. "The contribution doubles our association’s ability to fund scholarships in the Linn State Technical College telecommunications program."
Boarman stated that MTIA is the voice of the telecommunications industry within the state of Missouri and their support of the Linn State telecommunications program prompted CORE Telecomm to support additional funds for LSTC telecommunications students.
"MTIA’s president, Ric Telthorst, is as attuned to the big picture within the state of Missouri as anyone else," said Boarman. "He spoke highly of the Linn State Telecommunications program."
In Boarman’s opinion, the telecommunications industry is the single best industry for a young adult.
Graduates of the Networking Systems Technology Telecommunications Option find employment as technicians in switching, transporting of voice, data and video over copper, fiber and wireless connections. "Our graduates have positions as telecom administrators, fiber optic technicians and wireless technicians," said Dan Ramsay, Telecommunications Instructor.
According to Ramsay, the future looks very promising for telecommunications technicians. "There are many broad band projects underway in need of technicians,” said Ramsay. “It’s an industry with a generation of technicians soon to retire, as well as the creation of many new positions that don’t currently exist."
"Our industry is in need of highly-skilled employees to handle the demands of the twenty-first century communications networks," said Telthorst. "Investing in Linn State is an investment in the future of our industry."
